Preserving the Past
Sacramento
The Gregory Bateson Building was originally constructed in 1981. The State Historic Preservation Officer designated it a historically significant building in 2016 due to its innovative design elements, which at the time of original construction were considered cutting edge for architectural design and energy efficiency. The four-story, approximately 308,000 SF building occupies a full city block in downtown Sacramento at 1600 9th Street. McCarthy’s scope of work includes full building demolition and build back of exterior building envelope, MEPF systems, tenant improvement, restoration and rehabilitation of existing historic character-defining features. The project has the potential to become LEED Platinum Certified with available points in: Location and Transportation, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation, Regional Priority, and Integrative Process.
